PROFILE OF DR IDRIS OMEDE, THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT HOUSE

          DR. IDRIS OMEDE ( Bm.Bch, MPH, Fnma, Fnipr, Fnimn)

EARLY LIFE
Dr Idris Omede was born on the 10th of Semptember, 1962,to Omede Yusuf Edegbo of Odu in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Raised by his parents to value hard work and the pursuit of knowledge. Idris grew up knowing and acknowledging the necessity of education.

EDUCATION
After finishing his primary and secondary education at Methodist Primary School and Federal Government College Kano respectively, he proceeded to the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. He went on to graduate with his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery (Bm.Bch) in 1987.
  
    His unending thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, one of the foremost Universities in Nigeria. While at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he bagged his Masters in Public Health.
He had his first taste of leadership as the MPH set Chairman. He is a Fellow of Nigerian Medical Association (Fnma), a Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (Fnipr) and a Fellow, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (Fnimn)
     
CAREER AND WORK EXPERIENCE
After his study, he had his working experience beginning with Housemanship at the then General Hospital (now FMC) Makurdi, Benue State (1987-88). He undertook the one year NYSC at Yola, in former Gongola (now Adamawa) state in 1988-89. He was in charge of the camp clinic and was the chairman, state health team of NYSC community development services (CDS). At the end of the service year, he immediately took up appointment with the then Gongola State Civil Service as a Medical officer at the state specialist hospital, Yola.
He worked in the state specialist hospital, Yola from 1989-1993. Thereafter, opted for private medical practice. He has been in private medical practice in Adamawa Hospital Limited, Yola, Adamawa State, since 1993 to date. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Adamawa Hospital.
  
The call to serve came not too long after. Following his election into various posts in Nigerian Medical Association(NMA), Adamawa state branch, following the creation of Adamawa state from Gongola state in 1991. He was also appointed into various NMA committees in Adamawa state between 1992-1998.He was elected NMA Deputy Secretary General(National) 2000-2002, and was the Secretary of All standing Committees of NMA 2000-2002.
He was Chairman of many national committees of NMA, notably Conference Organizing 2002-2004, Immunization 2004-2006, Doctors Car Plate number 2006-2008, National Health Insurance 2008-2010; Building and Investment 2014 to date. He was elected the National President of Nigerian Medical Association a two years tenure(2010 – 2012).    He was elected as: Second (2nd) Deputy President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria(APBN) 2012-2014; and First (1st) Deputy President of Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria(APBN) 2014-2016; and President  of   Association  of   Professional Bodies   of   Nigeria  (APBN)   on  28th September, 2016 for a two years tenure 2016-2018.APBN  is an Association of Professions, institutes,  institutions,  societies and associations who by directly or their regulatory councils or bodies are registered by an Act of Parliament, providing advisory role and professional support to Government for sustainable development. APBN currently has 30 professional member bodies.   
Dr. Omede Idris served as Honorable Commissioner of Health, Kogi State from July 2012 to April 2014.He was reappointed, when the state Executive Council was reconstituted, again as Commissioner of Health, in Kogi state from July 2014 to 26th January, 2016. He was the Chairman of Kogi state Commissioners`forum, from July 2014 to January 2016.He was a member of the then Rotary club of Jimeta, Adamawa state. He is now a Member of Rotary Club of Yola. He was a Secretary, Vice President and Director of International service, Director Community services of Rotary Club of
Jimeta   between1996-1999,   President   of   Rotary   Club   of   Jimeta   2000-2001;Assistant Governor of Rotary District 9120, Adamawa & Taraba state 2001-2002.   In   2012-2013,   he   was   District   9125,   Chairman   National   Polio   Plus Committee (NPPC). 

As a Rotarian and Past President of Rotary, he carried out community projects targeted at the poor, less privileged and provision of HealthCare Services to the poor and needy. He is a Paul Harris Fellow(PHF).He was the President of Inikipi Club of Nigeria, 1993- 1996.The club had functional base and members in Yola, but the administrative headquarter was at Anyigba.
The club programs and activities centered on sensitization and mobilization of Igala sons and daughters, particularly the elders with youth participation to enhance unity of purpose, inclusiveness, togetherness, and common interest of the people and the Kingdom for sustainable development. Programs and activities of the club were held in 1993 and 1994 at Anyigba and at Ata Palace, Idah in 1995 with attendance of prominent elders of the Kingdom living within and outside the kingdom.
   
He is widely travelled within and outside Nigeria for Professional, Business and Associations’ Conferences, Meetings, Workshop, Seminars and other activities,including   World   Health   Assembly   2013,Geneva,   Switzerland   and   first   ever Global Maternal and Newborn conference 2015 at Mexico, U.S.A. and several occasions to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has at various times in many states of the Federation including FCT Abuja, being a Resource Person, Facilitator,Trainer, Lead Discussant, Panelist, Guest Speaker and Keynote Speaker in many conferences, Seminars and workshops on Public health, contemporary state   and   national   issues;   Youth   as   agents   for peace, Security  and   Socio-Economic development. He has also being Guest speaker to Igala Community under the auspices of Igala   Cultural   and   Development   Association   (ICDA)   in   Adamawa   state   on various topics.
He was the Keynote Speaker on the theme: “Crisis on multiple fronts: Igala Language, Culture and Leadership in the 21st  Century”  at the September2016   Annual   conference   of  Igala   Association,   USA,   which   held   at   Boston,Massachusetts.  
He   was   a   central   and   state   training   facilitator   to   National Programme on Immunization (NPI) for National Immunization Days (NIDs) in 2001 and 2005-2006.He has numerous awards from his Professional body(NMA), from many state branches, Including FCT Abuja, and National- Fellow NMA  and the  and other professional bodies and associations such as  Fellow of Nigerian Institute Public Relations   fellowship(Fnipr)   2017,   National   Institute   of   Marketing   of Nigeria(Fnimn)  Heads   of   Federal  Establishments   of   the  Federation   in   Yola,2005; Igala Cultural and Development Association, Adamawa State branch,Igala Students Association,  Federal University of   Technology (now Modibbo Adama University of Technology), Yola; Rotary and Rotaract awards. Others are National   Association   of   of   Kogi   State   students   (NAKOSS),  National   Youth Council, Kogi State chapter, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS),Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Kogi State Branch, Centre forEthics and Self Value Orientation, Lokoja, Kogi State.  Also included are Dekina Local Government Young Elite Forum, Ambassador of Dekina Children, KogiState   Youth   Parliament   and   Leadership   award,   Mass   Communication Department, Kogi State University, Anyigba.
He is Chairman,  Board of Trustees of Optimum Health Initiatives (OHI),and Member Board of Trustees of Maternal Health and Girl,s Right Network, both are Non-Governmental Organizations(NGO).Dr Omede Idris was a former Board Member of:
1. Federal Neuropsychiatry Hospital Maiduguri, 2000 – 2004
2. National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala Kano, Kano State, 2005 – 2007
3. Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi State 2009 – 2011
4.Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)- The council is the regulatory body of Medical and Dental Practice and Practitioners in Nigeria. 2010-2012
5. Member of the Disciplinary Tribunal of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (2010 - 2012).
6. National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Abuja, April 2013 to July 2015.
7.Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria-2013 to July 2015.

PERSONAL LIFE
Dr Omede Idris is married to Hajiya Fatima Idris, a Civil Servant and Blessed with Children. He has many siblings, relations and an aged father.
